Learn to Play-learn to skate or little pens

Learn to play, learn to skate, in house or little pens

  • The Learn to Play Hockey Program will have 2 series. Series 1 will start Saturday October 25th from 4:30 to 5:30pm. Series 2 starts Saturday, January 3rd.  To participate in these programs, the player must be able to skate backwards including crossovers, which is the Beta testing level in the Learn to Skate program.  Otherwise, they must enroll in the Learn to Skate classes starting Tuesday, September 30th from 6:00-6:30 or 6:30-7pm.  Registration deadline is September 16th.

  • Anyone playing in the Learn to Play or In House Program must be tested.  There are NO exceptions.  5 testing dates are as follows: Saturday, Aug. 23rd from 5:30-6:45pm, Sunday, August 24th from 3:30-5pm, Friday, August 29th from 3:30-5:15pm, Friday, September 12th from 3:30-5:00pm and Friday, October 10th from 3:30-5pm. Cost is $6 per session.

    • This Learn to Play Program is for skill development only. The purpose of this program is to teach the players the basics of the game while having fun.    Full equipment is required. Class is on Saturdays at 4:30 to 5:20pm for 8 weeks and week 8 is a scrimmage. There is no cost for equipment rental but a $75 deposit is required and $50 for skates. We do have equipment rental for ages 5-9 years old, depending on size of the child. Cost is $40 for this program.

    • The In House program (2 series) is subsidized by the Armstrong Hockey Hall of Fame and the Armstrong Amateur Hockey League (AAHL).  Members of the Armstrong Hall of Fame will be coaching this program again.  Series 1 starts October 25th from 5:30 to 7:15pm on Saturdays.  Series 2 starts on Saturday, January 3rd at the same time.

    • The In House program allows participants ages 5 thru 12 to enjoy the game on a non-competitive basis.  The 50/60 minute session will be a scrimmage game. This is a NO check program. Cost is $40 for this program.  Cross ice or ½ ice games will be played to increase the player’s handling of the puck. All players will play every position.

  • Each participant must be registered with USA Hockey.  Go to the USA Hockey Mid Am website to register. Cost is $40 and there may be an affiliate cost as well. You must provide a confirmation paper to the Belmont to participate.  We have goalie equipment for players interested in playing goalie.

As of today, we are planning on hosting another Little Pens program which would start in January, 2015.  All registrations are done through the Pittsburgh Pens web site which is usually in November.
